Apple Distinguished Educator

I thought that some people may be curious to know a little more about the ADE program and how you might become part of this amazing group of educators.

The Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE) program was created to recognize K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning. Today it has grown into a worldwide community of visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things with technology in and out of the classroom. That includes working together — and with Apple — to help bring the freshest, most innovative ideas to students everywhere.

It’s worth keeping an eye on the Apple website as applicants can only submit their entries once a year in a 6-8 week window.  The entry process is by no means easy.  Ask yourself these questions;

  1. Do you use Apple technology in a learning environment daily?
  2. Do you consider yourself to be a pioneer in certain fields of education?
  3. Are you creative, and do you inspire others through your creativity?
  4. Do you collaborate with others and are you prepared to share and learn so much more?

If you can you demonstrate examples of your work, taking the above points into consideration, then you are half way there.  Remember that Apple Education likely receive hundreds of applications in each region and only a very small handful will be chosen.

Being a member of the group is hugely rewarding.  You will meet your ADE colleagues throughout the year at Apple organised events, and you can call upon their expertise at any time through the amazing online forum.

You will be encouraged to create, publish and share your experiences with your colleagues.  Remaining an active contributor throughout your membership is vital.  Having the opportunity to publish outstanding material on iTunes U is just one of the many benefits which excite me personally.

The application process is an involved one.  You will need to create a 2 minute video – this needs to be honest, showcase your creativity and be of a professional standard.

You will also need to complete the application form.  In my case this was 9 pages long.  These notes are from my personal case, the process may change in the future.  For more details check http://www.apple.com/education/apple-distinguished-educator
